PA in Bloom 2018 - this year's gardening competition
2018 - June, Latest news
If you have green fingers and a way with plants, now’s the time to show off your skills and take part in our gardening competition - PA in Bloom 2018.
Entries can be as big as a community garden or as small as a window box. And there are categories for all things in between such as best fruit or vegetables and best children’s garden. If you’re not horticultural yourself you can nominate a PA neighbour or resident who might be too shy to enter themselves. You can enter more than one category and previous entries can be offered again.
There are fabulous prizes to be won including vouchers, seeds, tools and much more. Judging will take place until the end of August and the panel will include staff, community partners and involved residents who have experience in horticulture and design for the built environment.
Points are scored out of 30 and will be awarded for colour, design and layout; innovation in use of materials and plants; general presentation; and overall impression and neatness.
Closing date is Friday 27 July 2018
All applicants will be invited to an awards ceremony in September when prize winners will be announced. By entering the contest you give PA Housing permission to use photographs of your green space in future publications.
The categories are:
Best community or communal growing space
If you’ve been working with your community on a project to benefit your area, here’s your opportunity to have it noticed. No project is too big for this section.
Best children’s garden
This can be a garden by or for children. If your youngsters are growing up to be keen gardeners this is the right category for them.
Best hanging basket or window box
Just because space is in short supply doesn’t mean you have to miss out on flowers and plants.
Best small garden or patio garden
Got room for a bit more than a window box? Enter your small garden or patio
Best vegetables or fruits
We’re not limiting the contest to flowers. Show off your edible plants in this section. Everything’s welcome from crisp salad leaves to an orchard.
Most inspiring or creative garden
Use your imagination for this one. It can be anything from a traditional cottage garden to unusual use of modern materials and plants. The sky’s the limit here.
Best wellbeing garden
Gardening and spending time among plants is now recognised as being good for your health. So does your patch inspire relaxation? Is it great for exercise, or is it filled with uplifting scents? Enter it here.
Nominate a PA Housing neighbour or resident
And finally, if you don’t have a garden but your neighbour’s is amazing, let us know.
