Bollywood comes to Sabarmati House, Leicester

The glitz and glamour of Bollywood came to residents at Sabarmati House in Leicester recently, so we sent our Communications Officer, Marco, to check it out.

It's always a treat to be invited along to events that bring residents and colleagues together, especially when it comes to celebrating the diverse cultures of our community.

Sabarmati House is a South Asian-centred independent living scheme for the over 55s in Leicester.

You may remember that Neighbourhood Coordinator, Sharan put together a stunning, non-denominational festive event at Sabarmati House last November that was inclusive of the broad range of faiths and beliefs our residents hold. On Wednesday 2 July, she was back at it again – bringing the party atmosphere and putting big smiles on faces with the big Bollywood bash of the summer.

Sourcing delicious, all-vegetarian food from caterers, 4 Seasons so as to cater for the diets of most residents at Sabarmati House and playing some of the biggest Bollywood hits on the new communal TV, everything was in place for this event to be a huge success!

Once we'd all gorged ourselves on our authentic Indian thalis with curries, naan, salad, and sundries, it was time to get up and dance. Sharan didn't hesitate to jump in and get involved, truly bringing the party to life and building strong connections with residents.

I regret to say I awkwardly contributed some pretty lacklustre dance moves to the mix myself, but it was all part of spreading the joy and building a sense of camaraderie between PA and residents… even if it meant looking a little bit silly.

I'd also like to thank Andrew Briers for getting me back to the office once all was said and done, but the credit must go to Sharan for putting together such a fun event for residents and colleagues alike.

Once things started to settle down, I stayed to witness some very sweet traditional singing in the communal area by some of the ladies living at Sabarmati House.

During the event, Shannah, Customer Content Creator and I (but mainly Shannah) took pictures of and for the residents, who were happy to commemorate the day with some lovely photos.

The Bollywood themed afternoon lunch at Sabarmati House was a huge success! It was wonderfully attended by all our residents, who thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and the warm, joyful company of one another. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and music, as everyone got involved in the dancing and singing, making it a truly memorable and spirited celebration.
