The right to independent living is covered in international human rights law. Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), ‘Living independently and being included in the community’, clearly states that people with a disability have the right to independent living.

The number of people with a learning disability is higher than ever. It is set to increase further in the next 20 years, within PA Housing we work with a number of care and support providers providing accommodation such as specially adapted properties to self-contained units to support our residents with learning disabilities to be able to live independently within their communities.
