Celebrating 100 Years of the Wolsey!

2023 - September, Our news

The site where the Wolsey building in Leicester now stands was once a hosiery factory. When the current building was constructed, a corner section of the original building — with the portrait of Cardinal Wolsey — was retained. This section was built in 1923 and so this year, we celebrated its 100th birthday with a garden party.

On Saturday 9 September, we invited all our Wolsey and Abbey Mill residents to join us for an afternoon of fun. We had music and dancing, mehndi artists, a temporary tattoo station, an ice cream van, outdoor games, and more!

We had a great turnout and the feedback from the residents was overwhelmingly positive. Our guests ranged from 1 year old to 101 years old and there was something fun for everyone to do.

Thanks to our Resident Engagement and Community Coordinators Raj and Kelly, and the Resident Committee for getting the funding for the party. Also, thanks to our Extra Care Team: Ellie, Anzar, Darshana, Shahaed, and Wilburn for all their help in the run up and on the day of to the event. Finally, thanks to our Specialist Housing Manager, Dawn for being a sandwich making machine!"
Happy Birthday, Wolsey!
